Local Therapy for Kids & Teens with Anxiety & OCD

Is your child struggling with anxiety or OCD?

While anxiety and OCD can start at almost any time, the average age of onset for OCD is between ages 7 and 12, and many other anxiety disorders can begin just as early.  Early intervention can make all the difference and kids can benefit greatly from receiving the right treatment.

How do you know if your child is struggling with an anxiety disorder?

While the feeling of anxiety is a natural and healthy part of being a human, persistent or extreme anxiety can have an incredibly negative impact on a child’s day-to-day life.  Here are some signs that you can look out for that your child might be struggling with an anxiety disorder:

  • Persistent worrying about various or specific topics
  • Extreme avoidance of specific situations that they used to tolerate or even enjoy
  • Repetitive, seemingly nonsensical behaviors, such as tapping or excessive washing
  • Asking you to participate in repetitive, seemingly nonsensical behaviors
  • Asking you repeatedly to reassure them that something bad isn’t going to happen
  • Constant complaints of headaches or stomach aches, unrelated to a medical condition
  • Refusal to go into another room or location without a caregiver present
  • Chronic irritability

Common Types of Anxiety in Childhood

Finding the right therapist for your child or teen

Finding a therapist who truly understands what keeps your child stuck in their cycle of anxiety or OCD can make all the difference.

When looking for a therapist for your child, there are 2 main things to keep in mind:

  1. Make sure that your child feels comfortable with their therapist.
  2. Make sure that the therapist uses evidence-based approaches that will give your child the tools they need to make real progress

If either of these two factors is missing, there is a good chance that your child won’t make the progress that you are hoping for, so it’s worth taking your time in finding the right person.
